Last Month, Start-up Croydon invited us to speak at their Creative Careers Week event, giving us an opportunity to connect with young people and shine a light on the vibrant, rewarding, and increasingly essential world of creative careers. We aimed to inspire the next generation to embrace their creativity and consider careers in fields such as film and TV, radio and podcasting, and photography and videography.
In today’s world, creativity has never been more vital, however pursuing a career in the creative industries can feel daunting, especially for young people unsure of where to start. By sharing insights, experiences, and advice, we aimed to empower these young people to see themselves as the storytellers and content creators!
As a charity, we’re committed to encouraging creative talent through our dedicated programmes. During Creative Careers Week, we showcased the ways we help young people develop essential skills in:
Film and TV: From screenwriting and directing to editing and production, our workshops provide hands-on opportunities to learn what it takes to bring stories to life on screen.
Radio and Podcasting: With the rise of digital audio, this medium offers a platform for diverse voices and unique perspectives. We teach participants the art of storytelling, sound design, and how to build an engaging podcast.
Photography and Videography: Visual storytelling is at the heart of the digital age. Our sessions help young people master the technical and creative aspects of capturing compelling visuals.
One of the highlights of our discussions was exploring how to stand out in a competitive industry. We emphasised the importance of building a personal brand, honing unique skills, and staying adaptable in an ever-evolving field. Creativity thrives on authenticity, and we encouraged attendees to embrace their individuality and draw inspiration from their experiences.
We also highlighted the value of networking, continuous learning, and persistence. Whether it’s starting small with passion projects or seeking bigger opportunities, every step contributes to building a meaningful career.
Creative Careers Week reminded us why we do what we do. Seeing young people light up with excitement at the possibilities within the creative industries was a powerful reminder of the potential we have to shape the future.
